Marc Cox, Ph.D., associate professor in The University of Texas at El Paso’s Department of Biological Sciences, was named 2016 Texas Inventor of the Year by the State Bar of Texas’ Intellectual Property Committee for his breast and prostate cancer treatments developed at UTEP.

He is the first awardee from a university. Cox developed drug candidates targeting a critical protein that these cancers are dependent upon for growth. This work has attracted close to $2.3 million in research funding and created at least five new academic research jobs in Cox’s UTEP lab.
